Mafia - The Rules
#1
Basic Rules of Mafia
When you boil down the game of Mafia to its simplest point, it's a battle of wit between two teams, the Mafia and the Townies. The day before the game is scheduled to begin I will PM to each player what they're role is.

A Townie is a an ordinary person who lives in a town. Townies do not initially know the roles of any other player and only knows their own role. Townies win when all of the Mafia has been killed.

A Mafia Member looks like an ordinary person but is in fact a deadly member of the local Mafia family. Mafia Members know not only their role as a member of the Mafia, but they also know who else is in the Mafia. The Mafia wins when all Townies have died.

During the Day Phase of the game, everyone in the Town, including Mafia Members, talk amongst themselves in the forum and try to figure out who is the Mafia scum while the Mafia Members attempt to blend in. Each day each Townsperson can cast a single vote for them to send one person to the gallows. Townspeople may change or even remove their vote if they feel the need to as many times as they feel before the end of the day. As soon as someone has a majority of the votes, I will post saying that that person was sentenced to hang at the gallows and I will reveal what their role was. If by the end of the day no person has received a majority number of votes then no one will be hung at the gallows.

During the Night Phase of the game, the forum will be closed and nobody with the exception of the Mafia Members are allowed to talk about the game with each other. The Mafia Members then through the PM system discuss between themselves who they want to kill during the middle of the night. The Mafia Members will then PM myself with their decision before the night's end. The Mafia MUST make a choice before the end of the night on who they want to kill. If they do not I will randomly select somebody to die and Mafia Members will not be safe from this random selection. When I remember the topic for the next Day Phase I will announce who was killed by the Mafia during the night.

This cycle of the game will continue until either all members of the Mafia are dead or all the Townies are dead.

Rules
1. You may NOT quote anything that the Moderator says to you.
2. Non-Mafia Members may not talk about the game during the Night Phase of the game.
3. No player is to talk with non-players in an attempt to get outside information.
4. All votes are to be made public in the game's Forum. All votes MUST be in Bold Text. Yes, people can view your votes. Think of it has a Public Forum all announcing who they want to vote for, which is essentially what is happening.
5. Each Day Phase will last a maximum of 72 Hours. If a majority of votes is reached sooner then the unfortunate Townsperson will be hung and the Night Phase will begin.
6. Each Night Phase will last a maximum of 24 Hours. If all players who have a Nightly Role [Mafia Member, Doctor, Cop] PM me what they are doing if anything do so before the 24 Hours, I will post who died and the next Day Phase will begin.
7. If you cannot continue playing a game of Mafia that you have already started playing in, please PM me asap so I can try and get a replacement player for you.
8. All posts must be made in English that way everybody knows what everybody is saying. No using special fonts or secret codes. All conversations must take place within the Forum and not anywhere else. Mafia Members choosing who to kill during the Night Phase are the only exception.
9. If a player allows 24 Hours to pass since their last post, then they will receive a PM warning them. If they do no respond to the PM and/or make a significant post in the game in the following 18 Hours, they will either be replaced by another user or their character will be auto-killed. What happens depends on the state of the game.
10. I am the Moderator of this game and as such I have final say.

Now, let's take a brief look at what a Sample of the game with seven players (5 Townies and 2 Mafia Members) might look like:

Day 1
The day begins and there are seven townspeople around. With seven players it takes four votes to send someone to the gallows. A Townie usually gets hung on the first day due to their not being much to discuss and nobody has any reason to act suspicious yet. Sure enough one of the seven Townspeople said something that everyone else misinterpreted and was voted to go the gallows. Turns out it was an ordinary Townie.

Night 1
The ordinary Townspeople have gone to sleep and the members of the Mafia discuss who they want to kill. They have made their decision and told the moderator. Another Townie has been killed in their sleep.

Day 2
The townspeople see that a Townie has been killed by the Mafia and discussions begin as to who the Mafia might be. Now that there are 5 people left the number of votes needed to send someone to the gallows is 3. At this point the Townies must be careful. If they hang another Townie then after the next night there will be more Mafia Members than Townies and the Mafia will win! Accusations fly about different townspeople and finally the three Townies think they've nailed a Mafia Member. They each place their vote and sure enough the one they hung was a member of the Mafia.

Night 2
With only one Mafia Member left, their decision is easy and they pick the next Townie to be killed.

Day 3
Another Townie has fallen and now only three Townspeople remain so now only two votes are needed to hang someone. Each player is nervous, because this is where things get tense. If the two Townies don't both figure out who the remaining Mafia Member is, then the Mafia will win, but if the Mafia Member slips up and allows the Townies to figure out who they are, then the Mafia will lose. Sure enough the Townies figure it out and send the remaining member of the Mafia to the gallows. The game is now over and all Townies, even the dead ones, win the game.
