Roles in Mafia
#1
Protagonist Roles

Role: Beloved Princess
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Beloved Princess is just like any other Townie with the exception that if the Beloved Princess is killed in anyway, then the very next day phase is completely skipped while the townspeople attend her funeral. The Beloved Princess is not always told that she is the Beloved Princess and may be told that she is actually just a Vanilla Townie.

Role: Bus Driver
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: During the Day Phase the Bus Driver acts like other Townies and tries to kill the Mafia. During the Night the Bus Driver can PM the names of two players to the Moderator to effectively "switch" those players locations for that one night. Any Night Actions that were targeting one of the two moved players (Doctor Protection, Cop's Investigation, Night Kill, etc.) is now targeting the other player instead. This can lead to interesting results because a Mafia Member might target Moved Player A, but since they got moved they are not targeting Moved Player B and Moved Player B could have been one of their fellow Mafia members. If a player moved by the Bus Driver is targeting the other player who the Bus Driver moved then the Night Action goes through as normal and they do not wind up targeting themself.

Role: Innocent Child
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Innocent Child is for all intents and purposes a Vanilla Townie who at any point in the game can send a Private Message to the Game Moderator and the Game Moderator will post in the topic confirming that the player is indeed Pro-Town and not working with the Mafia.

Role: Jack-of-all-Trades
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Jack-of-all-Trades is a Townie with many different abilities they can use. Only one of these abilities can be used per Night Phase and they can each only be used once. The abilities available differ game-by-game. Typical abilities include are: Investigation, Protection, Roleblocking, and a Vigilante Kill.

Role: Mason
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Masons are a group of 2-3 Townies and can also have another Pro-Town role such as a Doctor or Miller. Masons know from the start of the game who their fellows Masons are and they know that they are all innocent. During the night Masons are able to talk amongst eachother and are one of the few roles other than the Mafia Family who can do this.

Role: Miller
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Millers are just like any ordinary Townie with the single exception that if they are investigated by the Cop, they will always turn up as being Anti-Town. The Miller may not know that they are the Miller and may be told that they are really just an ordinary Vanilla Townie. If killed, they will be revealed as the Miller.

Role: Vanilla Townie
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Vanilla Townies are the basic members of the town. There is absolutely nothing special about them. Their only "powers" are their voice and their vote.

Antagonistic Roles

Role: Mafia Goon
Alignment: Pro-Mafia
Description: Mafia Goons are the most basic members of the Mafia. At night they may talk with other members of the Mafia and decide which other player they are going to kill that night.

Role: Mafia Godfather
Alignment: Pro-Mafia
Description: The Mafia Godfather, like other members of the Mafia, may speak with other Mafia members at night to determine who to kill. Mafia Godfathers also have the ability that when a Cop investigate them to see whether they are Pro-Town or Anti-Town, the Godfather will always give off a Pro-Town when investigated. It should be noted that there can be only one Mafia Godfather per faction and just because they are the Godfather they are not necessarily the leader in these games.

Role: Mafia Ninja
Alignment: Pro-Mafia
Description: The Mafia Ninja is a member of the Mafia who cannot be tracked by a Tracker nor watched by a Watcher. In some games the Mafia Ninja is able to bypass Doctors and Roleblockers when they make the kill.

Role: Mafia Roleblocker
Alignment: Pro-Mafia
Description: The Mafia Roleblocker works just like the Pro-Town Roleblocker in that each night the player can PM the name of one other player to the Moderator and if they were going to perform a Night Action that night it doesn't work. The only difference between the Mafia Roleblocker and the Pro-Town Roleblocker are their alignment.

Role: Mafia Spy
Alignment: Pro-Mafia
Description: The Mafia Spy is a unique role that while it is Pro-Mafia it does not start out working with the Mafia and cannot communicate with them during the Night Phase. The Mafia Spy knows who all is in the Mafia but the Mafia do not know who the Spy is. All the Mafia knows is that they have a Spy. The Mafia Spy's job is to work with the Mafia and try and get the Townies killed. At anytime during the game the Mafia can choose to recruit the Mafia Spy as a full-fledged member of the Mafia. At this point the Mafia Spy can participate in the Night Phase discussions and can make Night Kills. Until the Mafia decides to recruit their Spy, if investigated by the Cop the Spy will appear to be Pro-Town. After the Spy has been recruited, any Cop investigations against them come up Anti-Town. When the Mafia Spy gets recruited, they turn into a standard Mafia Goon.

Protective Roles

Role: Backup Doctor
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Backup Doctor works just like a normal Doctor with the exception that the Backup Doctor has no actual powers until all normal Town-aligned Doctors are killed. The very next night after the last normal Doctor has been killed, the Backup Doctor will acquire the powers of the Doctor.

Role: Backup Roleblocker
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Backup Roleblocker works just like a normal Roleblocker with the exception that the Backup Roleblocker has no actual powers until all normal Town-aligned Roleblocker are killed. The very next night after the last normal Roleblocker has been killed, the Backup Roleblocker will acquire the powers of the Roleblocker.

Role: Doctor
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Like other Townies the Doctor works on the Town's side in trying to get rid of the Mafia or whoever else is attacking the town. At night the Doctor may PM the moderator with one player that they wish to protect for that night. If the Mafia chooses to kill the person that the Doctor is protecting, then the kill has failed and the Mafia does not get to select a new target.

Role: Hider
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Each night the Hider may choose to Hide behind one other player. If the Hider is targeted that Night Phase to be killed, then the kill fails. Other Night Actions such as Protection and Investigation do still occur. If the person the Hider is hiding behind gets killed, then both players are dead. In some variations the Hider may instantly die if they hide behind a member of the Mafia or a Serial Killer.

Role: Jailekeeper
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Jailkeepers are essentially a Doctor and a Roleblocker combined into one. During each night the Jailkeeper may target one player and that player will not only be protected from Night Kills, but they will also be Roleblocked from performing any Night Actions.

Role: Roleblocker
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Roleblocker acts like an ordinary Townie during the day but at night can PM the Moderator with the name of one player who they wish to Roleblocked. When a player is Roleblocked then any night action they were going to perform that night becomes ineffective. Cops can't investigate, Doctor's can't protect, and Vigilantes, Serial Killers and Mafia Members can't kill. During games that use a Roleblocker or other similar rules it is required that Mafia Members pick which of their specific members is going to make the kill.

Investigative Roles

Role: (Sane) Cop
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Cops act like ordinary Townies during the day trying to find the Mafia. At night the Cop can PM the Moderator the name of one player who they wish to investigate. When investigating the Cop will receive a result of Pro-Town or Anti-Town but will not know anything further.

Role: Gunsmith
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Gunsmith works similarly to the cop in that each night they can PM the moderator with the name of one player who they wish to investigate. Instead of getting a reading of whether they are Pro-Town or Anti-Town, the Gunsmith will instead find out if that player has a gun or not. Roles such as Mafia Goons, Vigilantes and Cop would all be shown as having a gun. Roles such as Vanilla Townies, Doctors and Serial Killers would not be shown to have a gun.

Role: Insane Cop
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Insane Cop follows all the same rules as the Cop. The difference between these two Cops however is that the Insane Cop will always get incorrect results when he investigates someone. A player who is working with the Town will get an Anti-Town reading for the Insane Cop and players who are working against the Town will get a reading that they are Pro-Town. The Insane Cop is not told they are Insane until the game is over and will believe themselves to be a normal Cop. If however the Insane Cop can learn that they are in fact Insane then they can easily determine whether someone is truly for or against the Town.

Role: Tracker
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Each night the Tracker can PM the name of one player to the Moderator to track that person. If the person being tracked targets any other player with a Night Action, then the Tracker will know that they did so and who they targeted. The Tracker will not know what it was that the player was doing. A Tracker cannot tell the difference between a Cop and a Mafia Goon and would get the same result from each if they were to use their Night Action on someone.

Role: Watcher
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: Each night the Watcher can PM the name of one player to the Moderator to watch that person. If the person being watched is targeted by any other player with a Night Action, then the Tracker will know who they were. The Watcher will not know what that person was doing and can therefore not tell the difference between say a Vigilante Kill and a Mafia Kill.

Killing Roles

Role: 1-Shot Vigilante
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The 1-Shot Vigilante works exactly the same as a normal Vigilante with the singular difference being that a 1-Shot Vigilante can only use their power once in a single game whereas the normal Vigilante and use their power as many times in a single game as they want.

Role: Bomb
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: If the bomb is targeted by another player and is killed, then the killer will die as well. If the Bomb is sentenced to death, then the player who cast the final vote against them will also die.

Role: Vigilante
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: The Vigilante works for the Town's side and during the day helps them find the Mafia. At night the Vigilante can PM the name of one player to the Moderator of who they wish to kill. The kill will be revealed at the start of the next day at the same time as when the Mafia's kill is revealed.

Role: Vengeful Townie
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: A Vengeful Townie acts just like any other Townie up until the point they are voted to be killed. At this point the Vengeful Townie gets a one-shot kill that they can use on one any other player to instantly have them die as well. To use this, PM the moderator with the name of the person who you want to kill after being voted to be killed.

3rd Party Roles

Role: Jester
Alignment:None
Description: The Jester's whole goal during the game is to get themselves sentenced to death. If the Jester dies in any other way, or if the Jester survives to the end of the game, then the Jester loses. If the Jester does manage to get themself sentenced to death then depending on the size of the game, the game may end with only the Jester winning or it may continue with the Jester and whoever else wins winning.

Role: Serial Killer
Alignment: None
Description: The Serial Killer works alone and their whole goal in the game is to be the last player standing. They don't particularly care who gets hanged during the day so long as it isn't them but if they can get rid of the Mafia Members then its less likely they will get killed at night. During the night the Serial Killer can PM the name of one player to the Moderator of who they wish to kill that night. The kill will be revealed the next day at the same time as when the Mafia's kill is revealed.

Role: Survivor
Alignment: None
Description: The Survivor is a unique role in that they do not care whether the Mafia wins or the Townies win. The only goal of the Survivor is to make it to the End Game. Even if the Mafia get to the point where they equal or outnumber any other factions in the game, the Survivor still wins as well as the Mafia wins. Just like anybody else, the Survivor can still place votes and join in Day Phase discussion.

Linked Roles

Role: Cop Enabler
Alignment: Pro-Town
Description: So long as the Cop Enabler is alive, then Cops can investigate other players during the Night Phase. If the Cop Enabler dies, then all Cops effectively become Vanilla Townies.

Role: Doc Enabler
Alignemnt: Pro-Town
Description: So long as the Doc Enabler is alive, then Doctors can protect other players during the Night Phase. If the Doc Enabler dies, then all Doctors effectively become Vanilla Townies.

Role: Siblings
Alignment: Pro-Mafia or Pro-Town
Description: The Siblings are comprised of two players, one who is Pro-Town (usually a Cop) and one who is Pro-Mafia (usually a Mafia Goon). If one of these two players gets killed in any way, then the other will automatically commit suicide the following night. In some variations the two Siblings can talk to eachother at night and may know the role of the other. If they do know the others role then they will not be able to disclose that information in any other Nightly chats with other players and can only reveal it during the day. If they initially do not know the role of the other Sibling then they may reveal their roles to eachother during their Night Chat but unlike how if they already knew eachother's roles they can go and tell others the role of the other sibling. In all variations whenever one Sibling dies the other will die the next night. The only possible exception to this rule is when one of the Siblings is ModKilled.

In this topic is where I will be providing information on the various roles that could appear in a game of Mafia. As you can see it is nowhere near finished. The different categories are those as described by the people of the Mafia Forum where I got this game from.

I have uploaded 10 roles to this topic now and believe me, more are coming. I am going to attempt to get up 5 more roles every week or 2 but that is not a guarantee.

If you have any questions or comments about these roles feel free to leave them here.
