Eva's home. Week later. After Trevor's funeral.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - -
It was dark when Eva got back to her apartment, she had such a bad headache. Eva walked up the dimmly lit stairs to the third floor, she hated having her apartment up at the third floor sometimes, but for some reason it made her feel safer up there, that if anything was to happen, it would happen on the first floor. She got to her room, unlocking it with a key. Opening the large dark wood door, she paused, for a moment, when she opened the door, somthing felt off. Still, nothing happened. with a sigh of relife. Everything was right where she left it. She put her bag down nerar the door, closing it and locking it, she was paranoid like that. Eva pulled off her coat, it had been raining out, pouring, so she was soaked. Eva rubbed her face with her hands, wiping away the raindrops. She looked at the small table that was in the middle of the room. On it sat a rubix cube, her father had given it to her when she was ten, but she had never been able to figure it out. Picking it up, she turned it over in her hands. She sighed, and left the room after placing it back down on the table to go take a shower. She came back out an half an hour later, a towel wrapped around her tightly. She walked through the small hall that connected all of the rooms, and went into her room. She paused, and hesitently turned around, walking back into the living room, he wet footsteps made being quite, hard, she didn't know why she felt that she neededc to be, but she just did. The scratchy carpet against the bottom of her feet tickled, but she didn't notice. On the table, where she had placed the Rubrix cube. She had had it for 15 years, unable to finish it. And there is sat, perfectly finished and solved, a note on top of it. She hesitantly picked it up,. Opening it. On it, in that same scrawled writing, the seemed so familiar. Said:
Hello, Eva.
She knew he was there. Standing behind her, she heard the sound of a sword, being drawn from its sheath. She gulped and closed her eyes, trembling as she heard his dark voice whisper in her ear “Hello Eva, why are you so scared...Boo” She let out a quick scream, but it was cut off, by his hand clamping over her mouth. “Now, Now, Now, don't be like that. Just. Calm. Down.”
she stopped moving entirely, terrified.
Why was he here? How did he get in? Was he here to kill her?
Shadow gave a slow shake of his head, and made a tsk-ing noise in her ear, then whispered, as if reading her thoughts, “I am not here to hurt you, But knowing you, you would have overreacted to my being here, and things would not have gone well, or in your favour.”
Eva gulped slightly. Shaking, gripping the towel tightly, how embarrassing this was, caught by a serial killer in her own home, and not even dressed! Her hair was still wet, and the water was dripping on the floor.
After what seemed like hours to Eva, Shadow whispered to her “I'm going to let you go now, promise me you won't scream? I wouldn't want to, but I will kill you.” Eva nodded her head quickly. Shadow took the sword from her throat, and put it back in its sheath, then let her go. She scrambled to get away from him, a fast as she could. She fell, into an armchair that was sitting in the corner of the room. Shadow made no movements towards her, or any movements in general Eva shakily asked him “W-what do you want? Why are you here!” Shadow sighed; it was strange to Eva, to be sitting here, talking with a serial killer, and him not doing anything at all. He looked at her, or in her general area, Eva couldn't see his eyes to tell what he was looking at. “Well, One reason would be, I have come to ask, how are my two good friends, Aaron and Trevor?”
At that, she stood again, yelling at him “Trevor is dead because of you! Why did you have to attack him! Why!” she was crying now, but Shadow didn't answer her, he made no movement at all. All he responded with was a simple sentence “I have my reasons.”
She wanted to attack him, to kill him, anything, but, she was powerless, she knew she couldn't kill him. He was a serial killer after all.
Shadow didn't do anything to calm her down, or say anything to make her sit, but he did say to her “Go to your room, get dressed. I have to show you something.”

Here yeh are - you meanies! your catching up with me!

I really need to finish it.. then start the next one...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Eva returned to the room, she was wearing her usual work uniform. She couldn't find her phone, she believed Shadow had taken it, and he most likely had. When she looked around for the creepy man, she couldn't see him, maybe he had left! She was hopeful, but sadly, and strangely. When she wasn't looking for him, that’s when she saw him. He was standing by the bookshelf, looking through the books, and a photo album.
She walked over to him briskly, not thinking, and took it from him. He looked at her, an amused smile on his face.
“Oh? Is there something you do not wish me to see?”
Eva gulped “W-well you have no right to go through my things.”
Shadow shrugged, and walked away, to the window. Eva was putting back on the shelf when she heard him say;
“I just have to wonder, how did you get that scar on your back?”
She froze, not knowing how to react. Anger? Fear? Or both?
She turned to him and said, “What?” her voice was shaken, and nervous.
Shadow didn't look at her, but continued to look out the window,
“I asked, how did you get that scar on your back?”
Eva put her hand over her right shoulder and looked away from him.
He looked at her from over his shoulder. “You were the one who was standing in front of me wrapped in a towel.”
He looked back outside, and smiled.
“Come here, my dear, this is what i wish for you too see.”
Eva hesitantly walked over to the window, and exclaimed “Oh my god...”
The moon, which had just risen to the floor window, was crimson; it was such a vibrant red, the colour or blood. The normally clear white light that shone over the city at night, was instead bathed in red, turning the city into a city of blood. It had a strange, morbid beauty to it.
“Beautiful, is it not?”
She looked at him, and for once, Eva agreed with him. “What. Is it?”
Shadow gave a light chuckle. “It is a marvellous thing that happens once every five-hundred years.”
Eva had no idea what he was talking about. “What does it do?”
Shadow just smiled “brings out the beast within the normal person.”
Outside of the building in the blood red streets, people where going insane. It looked like a citywide riot.
People were attacking other people, breaking windows, destroying cars.
Shadow chuckled darkly “See? I am not insane, I just listen to the natural order.”
Eva stared out the window “W-what’s making them…”
Then she saw, her good friend, Aiello, running down the road, in their direction.
She heard shadow sigh, she heard the sound of a sword drawn. “Well, my dear Eva, if Aiello comes here, and sees you, conversing with me, then, he shall suspect things. So, my dear, I am sorry.”
Eva stumbled back, as shadow held out the sword, the shiny jagged blade glinting red from the crimson moon.
As he advanced towards her, she walked back hitting the wall, Eva let out a scream when he slashed at her, just missing her, leaving a long thin gash in the brick wall.
Falling to the ground she yelled, “Just what are those made of!”
She rolled to the side, as the blade embedded itself into the floor beside her.
“Seriously! What type of metal is that?”
Shadow gave one of his dark chuckles, “All you need to know is that the blade is edge by the sharpest diamond.”
Eva ducked, and realized that shadow wasn't trying to kill her, in fact, he was purposefully missing. And the reason, was at that moment, Aiello kicked in the door yelling, “stop!”
Shadow looked at him, with his gun aimed and ready, and then at Eva, who was terrified. He found two possible routes, one blocked by Aiello, so, he jumped out the window, and strangely as usual, he landed softly on his feet, then just walked away.
Aiello ran over to the window, watching the chaos that occurred outside “Eva, what the hell is going on around here!” he managed to yell after staring at the mindless destruction outside. Eva didn't answer him, she couldn't. None of this made any sense to her, why is Shadow doing all of these things? Why is the moon making everyone act like this? Why wasn't it affecting them? Or Shadow for that matter? She decided to ask Aiello, he gave hardly an opinion, “It might be because his already crazy.”
Eva remembered what Shadow had said; she muttered it under her breath. “I am not insane, I just listen to the natural order... Natural order?”
Aiello stared at her “what was that? Did you figure something out? Was it something Shadow said?” Eva gave a light nod, then grabbed her coat and ran out the busted down door. Aiello called after her; “Eva! Where are you going?”
“I'm going to get the others, we have to stop him”
Aiello ran after her, as she fled down the stairs, two at a time.
“What do you mean? Who?”
Eva stopped in mid-stride, turning to him, making him nearly run into her.
“Shadow, we have to stop him, he's planning something, and there is no way, it's something good.”

Veronica’s home, 8:45pm, after Eva and Aiello got there.

Veronica was so confused and puzzled as to why both Eva, and Aiello where here, in her home.
“So...what went wrong now?”,she asked them. They had shown up minute before, frazzled and panicking, now they stood in her living room, asking if they could use this as a base of operations.
Eva sat on the couch, and said to her, in her calmest voice (it had taken them awhile to calm down).
“Well, if you haven't noticed, the Moon is in it's 500th cycle, causing it to be red for some reason, and that is causing some people to go insane, and it's creating a city wide riot.”
Veronica just stared at her “really?.....REALLY?....”
Aiello gave a nod “and whats worse is, Shadow's up to something. We don't know what. But we know it's something.”
at that Veronica blushed and turned away, making their suspicions of her all to clear.
“So Veronica, we need you to let us use this as our base..because..”
“Shadow destroyed the other one.”
She didn't say anything, but when she turned she was smiling, and waved them over “Follow me then. It's only us four now. Counting Primrose....where is she anyway?”
Eva and Aiello looked at each other. “Aiello, you go with Veronica, I'll go find Primrose.”
Veronica smiled lightly, walking down the stairs to her basement, and yelled up “Wait right there Eva! Let me get you something!”
they heard the shuffling of boxes and electronics, and when she came back up with a headset, and handed it to her Eva was surprised.
“This is so we can stay in contact, so you don't get lost.”
Eva smiled gratefully “thank you Veronica.”
when she turned to leave, Aiello grabbed her arm. He managed to say, avoiding her gaze. “Please, be careful.”
Eva nodded and whispered back “I will.”
then she left the house, to go find Primrose, alone, on the night where all was hell.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

Downtown, The way to Primrose's apartment. 9:00pm.

Eva had run from the house as fast as she could, dodging the people who had lost their minds. She passed a large group of people, all snarling like rapid animals. She had looked over as she ran by, wishing she hadn't.
The group of humans had been driven totally over the edge, and had become savage beasts. Their eyes were wild and crazed, saliva falling to the ground as they drooled in hunger.
What were they hungry over?
A human corpse freshly killed.
Eva clamped a hand over her mouth as she continued running her mind scarred with the images of the mentally insane humans eating one another.
Realising that things were not normal, she took out a small handgun she carried, hoping it might help against these people.
Eva heard static in her headphone,
“Eva? Eva? Can you hear me?”
Veronica's voice came through the static. Eva had hidden behind a parked car, when she responded in a hushed voice into the mic.
“Yes, I can hear you loud clear.”
She hid more behind the car, making herself as small as possible, as one of the “cannibals” walked by, it stopped, sniffing the air, started toward the car.
Eva didn't move, so paralysed by fear, images of the torn apart human – if it could have been called that- filled her mind.
It came closer to the car, jumping up onto it, saliva dropping onto the hood. The man – for that was what he once was- crouched down, looking over the side of the car.
To see the end of a pistol in his face.

Eva closed her eyes as she pulled the trigger, she didn't want to see the gore, or the body as it tumbled past her. She stood shakily, running away and not looking back.

For the record, I have been following this for the most part along the way, but haven't yet left a comment since... Well, let's be honest, I'm brutal at giving critique and opinions. :P This story is very interesting; I'll hopefully be able to give you a solid writeup over the break when I have a mo', but for now I will just leave this at "Looking really solid, and can't wait to read more!" :)

Simultaneously, at Veronica’s house. In her basement.

“Eva? Eva!” Aiello had heard the gun shot go off, and was terrified. He remembered Aaron saying something about Shadow having guns. The seconds seemed like hours before she responded.
“Aiello? Veronica? I'm alright, a bit shaken, but fine.”
He released the breath he didn't know he had been holding.
“What happened? We heard a gun shot! Are you alright?” Veronica asked scared, even though she had pictures of herself and Marshmallow all over her computers, she still couldn't calm down.
“Eva? Right now I'm talking to you through the computer headset, Ok? We're going to help you get to Prim's place. I put a chip in that headset so I could know if it ever got stolen...”
She shook off her screen saver, and started to rapidly press keys, getting a map up, with a little blinking dot on it.
Aiello looked over her shoulder. “What’s that?” Veronica gave a small giggle “It's where Eva is, remember? Tracking chip?”
Aiello nodded “Oh. Right. Sorry, I'm just...nervous.”
Veronica gave a nod. “Yeah. Me too.”
She then said into the mic. “Eva? Still there? You’re not that far from her place. When you get to the next street turn left, then at the next ally you see turn right.”
Aiello paced the length of the small room, waiting for this to be over, for Eva to come back safe and sound. He left the room, going to her a glass of water or something to drink, and while he was pouring the glass, he heard a scream, Veronica's scream. He dropped the glass, bolting for the basement door, the cup shattering as it hit the floor.

Moments before the scream.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - -
Veronica gave hardly a notice as Aiello left going back upstairs. She was giving the final direction to Eva, even though Eva couldn't move that fast and would most likely need to be told again.
“Okay, so after that corner, turn right down the main road. Got it? Okay good”
She watched the little dot on the screen moving in the direction she had told Eva too. Veronica was going to give her more directions, but suddenly the screen started to spasm out, turning to static, then to the blue screen. Veronica tried everything she could, but nothing worked. She watched in horror as each of her other computer screens did the same thing.
“No! No! No! No!”
She repeated the word as she rolled in her chair from one computer to the next. As she rolled across the middle of the room again, on the computer it all started on, appeared a little window, inviting her to a web cam conversation. She clicked yes of course, knowing whom it was.
And it was of course Shadow.
“Hello my dear.” he said to her as if nothing was wrong.
“You bastard! What did you do to my system!”
Shadow just chuckled, then shrugged.
“Just gave you a...slight drawback. A virus of sorts.”
Veronica turned more pale than usual. “What Virus? How do I stop it!”
Shadow just smiled, and leaned forward, the background was red from the moonlight, but only a square of the wall, like a window, so he might have been in a building somewhere, with a laptop or something of the sort.
“My dear; you do not stop the virus, because it hasn't even started yet.” he made a pointing motion the bottom of her screen.
“See the timer? It should say 10 seconds. So that’s all the time I have to tell you, I won't kill you, but this is all I will do, to make sure you stay away.”
He waved “Good-bye, My dear.”
As the timer, that veronica just noticed, reached Zero, one of the Zero's turned to what seemed like an...Egg? It hatched to a strange monster looking, glitchy.. Virus.
It made a happy face, then, started eating the screen at an alarming rate, the same thing happened on all of the other screens. Veronica tried stopping it with everything she had, but it didn't work, it seemed the little virus was eating it all, growing bigger, and eating more data more quickly. Soon it started to eat everything in her system.
Because she could not do anything, anything at all,
She screamed.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - -
On the main road. Eva, 9:30pm
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - -
“Veronica? Aiello? What happened?” Veronica had been giving her directions on moment, then nothing the next, not even static. She was all alone. Or so she thought, until she heard the static come back into the speaker, but no one said anything to her, not Veronica, and not Aiello.
Eva, scared out of her wits, managed to ask into the headset. “Veronica? Aiello?”
She didn't get the response she was expecting.
“They are, Unavailable at this moment, but, I'll be willing to direct you to Primrose's home.”
Eva felt as if her heart stopped. “What have you done?”
She heard him give a light chuckle, his customary laugh, “Oh nothing, don't you worry, their both safe and sound, Veronica's a bit on edge due to her...unfortunate system error.”
Eva was shaking visibly. “Where are you? And how did you get into Veronica's system?”
Again, another chuckle, as he replied “I'm far from them, and I will not hurt them, but I think you should be more concerned with yourself at this moment. During this conversation, you have been slowly surrounded by the humans whom you sought to protect.”
Eva looked around her, realizing he was right. “Wait- how do you know that? Where are you!”
Shadow didn't respond to her question, but instead said “You'd better start running, they're after you.” then he cut the connection, and so Eva was left alone to deal with this new problem.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Eva took off the headset, letting it hang at her neck. “Oh god.”
Around her almost hidden in the darkness around her, were the strange zombie-like humans.
Eva swore vividly and started running. She remembered a few of the directions to Primrose's house that Veronica had told her. She cut sharply to the right, as the barbaric humans gave chase.
She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, the adrenalin pumping through her veins. Eva was terrified. She turned left, almost out of breath, the creatures almost upon her. One jumped, lunging at her, she cried out.
And tripped, the thing flying right over her. She didn't know what she had tripped on, when she looked there was nothing, but she gave it little thought and pushed herself up, running yet again. Eva could see the building, it was an apartment building, but it had two large glass doors, they were open already. She ran in, slamming them shut, then running up the stairs. Her lungs felt like they were on fire, she couldn't breathe. So she collapsed on the stairs, hardly able to move. She looked back down the stairs, seeing that the people – if they could still be called that - were not going near the building. She sat there for a few minutes catching her breath, letting her mind wander.
Why did the red moon cause that to happen in people?
What happened to Aiello? And Veronica?
What was Shadow's plan?
Now that was the big question.
